Studs

Post by TonyW650 »

Evening Guys,
Is it common for the center top engine frame stud to seize in place?
If so whats my best course of action?
Also the rear lower front stud has seized in place aswell, one that holds the side stand on and goes all the way to the other side.
My Storm has been reduced to a engine and a frame today with the help from a mate. front exhaust collar, had to be cut off as had rusted to the studs, nuts can off it didnt!

I can only agree with these guys and their heat advice - I used my butane gun and then kept spraying with acf spray - many cycles of that.

I managed to get all the rear end off especially that bolt that goes right through and holds side stand bracket - just heat, patience and some brute force. - but definitely use 6 point sockets

Still working on getting the stud out and working on the clutch.
But on the plus side have been offered by a mate a set of blade forks, and yokes, clip ons, discs and calipers, 17 inch front wheel and rear wheel all for free!

Right I have a question, What type of gas torch do you recommend, I've been at it for over a hour with a butane torch and its still a no go, so Im assuming its not getting it hot enough or the heat is being dissipated to quickly!
