If you have hot grips, then set them to max heat. Let them get really hot. Then twist, it normally breaks the glue.chric wrote:Ruin my hand warmers though there stuck on with glue.

Maybe we are schizophrenic?
Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
Glad to hear you're pleased with it Mattster
I was looking into this a while back, I thought I found out that going by the face of a clock for easy reckoning the following:-
(1) The standard Firestorm throttle tube 15mins (1/4 of a turn)
(2) Honda RC45 throttle tube 12mins (1/5 of a turn)
(3) HRC QAT 10mins (1/6 of a turn)
Number (3) being the shortest throw.
I was thinking the same about some of my old British bikes years ago
Chris.

Interesting! I never bothered to measure the standard tube while it was installed.... it definitely felt like more than a 1/4 turn anyway!!sirch345 wrote:Glad to hear you're pleased with it Mattster![]()

Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
Don't know what to tell you guys.... I could go out and make a quick video of my throttle but it is 1\4 turn and it is the throttle tube that came with the bike.
I did try the RC45 tube but it didn't suit my riding style so I went back to stock

Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
I've ordered an RC45 tube 53140-ML7-000, but before I did I checked the p/no on Partzilla. Interestingly looks like the 2005 VTR came with this as standard, the 1998 to 2004 uses a different part number 53140-MY9-890.

Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
Quick action throttles and me don't get on anymore.
I had a hairy experience once on an FZR1000 with a QAT fitted when I was young and daft. (not so young now, but still a bit daft)
Stuck behind stationary traffic at a set of lights, I was in the queue as normal, traffic nose to tail, just minding me own business, when the car in front gave up waiting, so decided to stick the car into reverse with plenty of revs to get out and do a U-turn.
I had nowhere to go, other than get the hell out of the way sideways and sharpish.
So, whacked into 1st, and throttled it quickly to get out of the way before I got hit.
Yes. Survival situation kicked in, and you don't think about having a QAT on the bike....until you're flat on yer side after the bikes front end shot into the air.
QAT forgotten about, and so throttle used as normal = massives of throttle through a tiny turn + plus stationary traffic and trying to move out of the way quickly to save yerself = not a good idea.
Result? Damaged bike and a broken left wrist into the bargain.
Once repaired, QAT taken off the bike and binned, vowing to never have one ever again on anything I own.
They're superb for track use I suppose, cos you don't have to strain yer wrist going back and forth all the time. But in my experience, they're great for long distance riding as you don't get wrist cramps so much. And yes, pulling away (with a clear view ahead) is a great laugh. Just tickle it, and yer away. But through towns and built up areas, where your life could depend on getting out of a situation quick, having a QAT could end badly, as the first instinct it to give the bike a handful of revs....... You then get introduced to the view of a lovely blue sky, and then a mass of green or black. (depending if you stuff it in a hedge or the road).
Wow, consider that tuppence of mine well spent!! LOL!

Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
That's a great story GBM!
I have a few of those myself, unrelated to QAT's but involving fresh, shiny brand new tyres, taking off across a sloping road, and an imbalance between the throttle/grip relationship, but I shall save that for another day.
My point in the post above is that Honda themselves fitted the RC45 throttle tube to later model 'storms, along with a heap of CBR600's, so if is good enough for them...
But I take you cautionary tale in the manner it was intended, thanks.

Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
Just as a follow up to this, I ordered the RC45 part 53140-ML7-000. Turns out that this has exactly the same drum diameter as the standard part on my Japanese spec 1997 model, so I have just wasted my money on the part. In my defence, I had no way of knowing what the difference was, although I had established that I already had a 1/4 turn throttle. So slightly miffed at this point. Anyone need a throttle tube???
Guess I'll just need to be more assertive opening the throttle....
