white pitting on metal fixings

Post by Bal »

Hi folks, Ive decided its time to sell my storm but its looking a bit neglected, does anyone know if its possible to get the white pitting off the fittings? it looks really bad, does it all need replacing?
I would of offered it here first but in nearly three years I didnt make the 50 post count, prob because I only did 1300 miles.

Many thanks

pitting in alloy or chromed alloy parts is oxidation (rust when associated with ferrous metal) unfortunately it's irreversible and the only thing to do is to re-polish and hope it's not bitten in to deep
I've now gone all European and bought a KTM Superduke GT and Aprilia RSV1000R :D ,
Storm is now gone  .

Or replace with stainless steel allen bolts and nuts & stuff.

Is it the fairing brackets with the pitting :?: If it is it might be just as easy to replace them with used good ones if they're really bad,

Hi chris, if you click on the pic you can see its all of the bolts/screws/brackets/hose ends, i guess the laquer has just given up.

Oops, sorry I did click on the photo, but for some reason didn't study it close enough  I see what you mean now after a second look. If it's not too bad a wipe over with a lightly oiled rag may help,

Chris.

I've heard a product called acf50 is supposed to be very good and preventing corrosion and also treats whatever is already present. I've just ordered a can for mine for a good going over.

Replace the corroded fittings with these SS allen bolts.
