Beware. Abingdon bike bodywork And Aspire Restorations

Post by popkat »

DON'T USE....

A friend sent an engine off to Aspire Restorations for a rebuild, when he got it back and installed it in the bike upon attempting to fire up oil was pumping out of the side of the barrel at the join with the crankcase. With the top end off it clearly shows how it has been chiselled through to lever the barrel off, there are also marks and damage around a stud area where it has been hammered. This engine has O rings at the base of the liners, there were none fitted, it seems they just put the engine back together and hoped for the best, who knows what else will be found when the engine is stripped further..

When he contacted Aspire with the initial oil leak all they said was let us know what you find and we'll pass the info on to our contractor, wtf, they took on the job and said nothing of farming the work out, that's poor !, so they lied ! They got Abingdon bike bodywork to do the engine. What they should have done was instantly arrange for collection and promise to sort the problem asap, that's the least they should do.

There's no conclusion as yet but hoping they fully reimburse him and pay for another set of barrels.

This is not on a VTR Engine, It's a Suzuki GSX1100. The reason I'm posting here is they do all bikes, someone may ask them to do work on a VTR. Abingdon bike bodywork have an Orange Streetfighter Firestorm on the front page of their Website..

So Aspire offer restorations and to work on you pride and joy but they Don't always do it and don't tell you that, Abingdon Bike Bodywork rebuild engines and other work but as it stands at the moment (from limited info) have messed up the job, we'll see what the outcome is and what response comes.

That's bad   I hope your mate manages to get this sorted. Thanks for the heads up especially as they have the Storm streetfighter on their site. Let us know the outcome. It's firms like this that give the trade a bad name.
