An unwanted upgrade opportunity
An unwanted upgrade opportunity
Bit of a bummer really
Hit some gravel..... Then the road
Out on Friday, up in the dales, left at 9.30
Perfect weather, bright sunshine but a cool breeze
Hardly any other vehicles, and most of those I saw were going the other way
One of those dawdling days, rarely got above 65
Just taking in the scenery, no rush to get anywhere
On way home, 2pm
90' rh bend, one of those really nice ones at 40mph
Must be doing all of 30mph, probably less
Oh feck! Some gravel.......front washes out and hits the kerb, so we slide along on the right side of the bike
Hmm, been meaning to get one of those crank case protectors...too late now
Oil all over the road
So the insurance company has been told
Probably be written off
Fairing, crankcase, rear fairing, tank, screen, exhaust plus a few smaller bits
Shame really, without the oil loss I could have ridden home
Helmet, phone, jacket and boots suffered as well
Glad I had the body armour on
Will have to ask about buying the bike from insurance company and buy some new bits
Oh well, just a bruise on the rh hip
I live to ride another day

gutted for you flatters......
probably get it back from the insurance company for under £200, one of those carbon engine covers would have saved the loss of oil...doh!

Re: An unwanted upgrade opportunity
That's really bad news. It's never nice to hear when another bike's gone down the road, and more-so when it's another forum member. How many is that this week? One parked his sideways on a race track, and one went down on diesel.
And now you. So, that's number 3. I know they say "everything happens in 3's", and I hope no-one else gets to do a tarmacadam teeth test. This "happens in 3's" quota is well and truly fulfilled.
Just shows you don't have to be speeding down the road, or driving like a lunatic to crash a bike (as assumed by non-bike riding car folk, and the general ignorant public). Low speed accidents can wreck the bike just as bad.
I've had a fair few spills and knocks on the bikes, and in a town I lived in 20 years ago, an Accident and Emergency doctor that saw to me was a biker too. I always remember him saying to me, "the crashes you walk away from are always the best ones to have". (Even though that one was a 3 month wheelchair job).
Not that crashing is a good thing. But it also damages ego, pride and self confidence. I've known many an experienced rider to have another spill, and that's finally decided in them not wanting to ride a bike ever again.
I'm really happy to hear that you are not giving up 2 wheels just yet because of this!

Re: An unwanted upgrade opportunity
At least you got up and are ok that's more important then anything else... hopefully you'll get to buy the bike back and fix it up, if not plenty of others out there.
