Air box mods
Air box mods
im getting my ccts changed next week and once thats done im going to book my bike in for some dyno time where i will get a K&n fitted and was wondering if there are any airbox mods which i can do at the same time. but i would rather keep the power in the mid range rather than up top

Hello again,
if you want to see the effect of adding a K&N filter, have a look at this link:
http://www.dynamohumm.com/HONDA/VTR%201000/my_vtr.htm
Go to the two dyno sheets on the bottom of the page. Compare the red line in the upper graph (re-jetting, stock filter), with the red line in the bottom graph (jetted for K&N). End result of adding K&N: less torque AND a dip in the mids.
Now, if you want to see the result of having the stock filter with two long intake runners, have a look at my dyno sheet at teh following link:
http://www.superhawkforum.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=154
Notice how flat the torque curve is. In the real world, it pulls like gangbusters in the low and mid-range. I heartily recommend this combo.
Hope this helps.

I should mention that my bike also has Microns and a slightly modded air filter (http://www.burniemorgan.com/firestorm/airfilter.html)

Out of interest, did you guys need to re-jet for the different intake trumpets?
I've got a pair of std trumpets spare from when I bought a replacement airbox from a breaker (bargain £5 total!!)
If I put the shorter one on the rear it will give me more top-end at the expense of some mid-range
If I put the long one on the front it will boost the midrange at the expense of the top-end
Can't wait to try it

Pretty impressive dyno sheet dkt1376
Having read posts on other forums (http://www.superhawkforum.com) from folks (including one guy who knows the US Moriwaki distributor) who tried the 2 short runners, they found an increase of about 2 hp on top end (with a slight decrease in the bottom half). I can tell you that I tried two long runners and found a noticeable improvement in low-end power and response (bike literally leaped ahead when the throttle was turned...many smiles
) I have not tried the two short runners for I typically short shift my bike (7K and below) although you have given me food for thought.
Do you have any internal mods for your 115 hp seems quite high for only slip-ons, K&N and jet kit (and runners of course)? Of course maybe it is a different dyno or you have been blesed with a real strong one.
cheers
