when should i change my chain

My chain seems fine. Its not stretched, nor has it got bad tight spots. But Ive had it on for about 12k miles. seems a lot but without any symptoms of serious wear should I change it?

NO

If you have kept it well oiled well adjusted and ride smoothly there is no reason why it should not last 20 to 25k miles

If it has no tight spots and is not at the end of it's adjustment it should be fine.

But don't wait until it breaks to fix it: the last time my chain broke it bent by several millimiters the final shaft of the engine, the one the sprocket is mounted on .

Luckily this happened much time ago and not on the beloved FS...

I like the sound of doing 20k on one chain.
My last bike was a zzr600 and it stretched chain like it was liquorish.

Only reason I asked was Im getting a bit of vibration on the left footpeg and i wondered if it was the chain. But sounds not.

The advice Im getting is start with the chain.

i had the same vibration through the footpegs. turned out to be a few tightspots in the chain, probably down to naffed cush drive rubbers. all is good now though

Cush drives, Hadnt given that much thought but worth a try.
