How to Remove Battery from VTR1000F3

Post by thunderbolt »

I am unable to remove the battery from my '03 Firestorm. I don't know whether all Firestorm batteries are fitted the same way or not, but mine fits on an angle sliding in towards the front of the bike. After folding the plastic lid back I cannot get the battery to budge. Is there anything else I need to unclip to release the battery from the plastic box it sits in. No matter how hard I pull I cannot get the battery to move.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks
Cheers
Don

It sounds like you have an upgraded battery, because the standard had lots of room. For me to remove my battery I fist put the connector screws back in so I had some thing to pull with, when fitting it back in I put two long tie wraps around the battery so I had two handles to get hold of next time.

You could be correct Bassa. There is definitely no room around the sides of the battery. I am thinking I might need to make up a couple of metal straps with 90 deg ends on them to screw on to the terminals to get a decent grip on it to reef it out because it is certainly in there tight. Of course the metal straps would be insulated with something.

I use these...

Image

They are the straps that supermarkets use to secure the wheeled cages shut.

Remove the black plastic hook bit...cut a bit off the non loop end so it's long enough with having loads left over...use a lighter to melt back the cut end to stop it fraying...loop around batt...refit batt... instant handle...

Yes it can be a bit tight with this strap but the battery box has a fair bit of flex in it...& the lid will shut with a bit of effort.

I ''liberate'' the ones I have from co-op's when they leave the cages in the car parks...Other colours are avaliable...Tesco's one's are normally red, co-op vary blue or black...other supermarkets are avaliable.

You should have a drainage hole in the bottom. If you can. Poke something up to budge it

But mine came out easy
