There may be trouble ahead

Post by jurgen »

Hi All

Just wandering if i can pick peoples brain at all. Keep reading posts about CCTS failing..making me a little nervous if i'm honest...

Any how, i'm keeping a watchfull ear out for any strange noises so that i can have advance warning of them needing doing and i've noticed that i have a bit of a strange noise when i'm in 6th gear, doesn't happen in the other gears, i'm thinking that this isn't CCT related could be the gearbox...as if that's any better hehehe but just wanted to check that it wouldn't be a sign of CCT action about to happen. Amazed i can hear it over the new cans

Going to order the CCTS at the end of the months so that should take a weight off my mind. Any ideas?

Cheers

Err?
What sort of strange noise and when does it happen Jurgen?

P.S
you shouldn't have mentioned cans. Notice how Kaz jumped straight in there and tried to change the subject

Chain over tight, needs a lube?
what are the condition of the sprockets?
Can you still hear it if you hit the kill switch and pull the clutch in?. Rear wheel bearings are another favorite.

Yeah or the tyre pressure could be to low? Just a thought.

Tyre pressures are all good only just checked them, only just adjusted and lubed the chain, i'll try the kill switch, but it disappears if i pull the clutch in while in 6th gear.

But only seems to do it in that gear, it's not there through the other gears a bit weired, judging by the reaction i'm gussing it's not the CCT's

No cam chain tension noise is more of a slapping metal noise or loud ticking at idle.

Pete mentioned wheel bearings. It could be that?

Have you had any problems with the clutch slipping?

great av mate like that...sorry just thought i would get that off my chest :-)

Errm wheel bearing will give them a check, haven't noticed anything still wouldn't explain why it's only in 6th but hey up for some investigation. Haven't had any probs with the clutch so far, have noticed the engine in general has a different sound when the clutch is out but not like when it's in the higher gear...hmmm who knows. Did have my first false neutral yesterday...ekk is that weired.

Could be that the 6th gear is a little worn, or that the circlip holding it in place is slightly loose i suppose.

Oh she is nice isn't she. Just a thought, it could be something to do with the gear selector? Not the actual thing that you knock up and down but the thing inside the gear box. I don't know much about gearboxes to be honest but my mate had a problem where it would jump out of gear and would get the occasional false nuteral. He had problems with 4th and 5th gear. I know you haven't had it jump out of gear but maybe you have early stages of a similar problem.

Can't you get a local mechanic to have a look?

hmm, getting someone to look at it is an option i suppose but it's minor at the minute, was just curious as to if anyone else had the same problem. Well sort of just wanted to make sure it wasn't early signs of CCT failure really :-)

Don't want to admit defeat quite yet :-)

nothing loose in the air box department if your getting airy/humming noises, might be something vibrating or flapping in there.
