I'm wondering what the end of the cam chain tensioner runs against, as the tensioners I have are just bare metal on the end, does it press against something else before touching the chain? I presume it would, just wanted to be sure.

Hopefully you have tensioner blades (no.3) installed. Do you have manuals or auto CCTs installed? As OEM auto tensioners also have metal caps (no. 6) on the end of the tensioner.

That helps clear things up, at the mo I have auto's installed my plan is to put the manuals I got from Ade.

I presume then the blades will be there.

Some peple do , some don't it all depends if you want to get to the front head cam covers to directly measure the front tension/ or just do the finger tight back ¼ turn. Read and reread the installation guide till you're familiar with the procedure. Don't rush, have all the tools and parts required to hand inc cable ties for restraining the cam chain (just in case) and some silicone thread lock etc.

You don't need to remove the fairing - but you will need to take off at minimum the tank (make a note of where all the hoses go!) and airbox (careful with the screws and reattaching hose) and rear cam cover. While you're in deep its a good opportunity to fit a vaccum take-off plug and hose on the front pot to make carb balancing later on an easy job.

You can remove the front cam cover without removing the carbs by going in from the front, but IMHO it's much better to remove the carbs, it's a lot less fiddly. Just take some photo's as you go as they may come in handy on refitting. You don't have to remove the coolant hose on the carbs, you can with patience move the carbs about enough without,

Thanks, I have the tank, airbox off, I have already fitted the front vacuum when I balanced the carbs a couple of years ago, btw if I did remove the carbs and had them sonically cleaned do they need resetting up?
