I was wondering why my bike seemed kind of noisy on the right side around the water-pump/clutch. I bit the bullet and pulled the clutch cover off, then diassembled the clutch fully. I was very happy to find the steel and fibre plates in as-new condition (my clutch does feel great), as was the clutch basket.
I replaced the main bearing and the sleeve it rides on, because there was a little play in the old piece, but mainly because I had preemptively ordered those parts. I did notice that the water pump and oil pump chains are pretty slack, no idea if they are always like that? The other loose part is the clutch hub cush drive which has a bit of clonk when you shake it.
I buttoned every thing up, bled the clutch (which got a bit slushy after I pulled the pushrod out) and went for a test ride. All good, and a little quieter/smoother than it was. So my conclusion is that all is well (or as well as can be expected for the mileage) and it's just a bit noisy due to the chains and cush drive. Celebrated with a beer.

Yes, the water pump and oil pump drive chains are always slack, but never (in my experience) break or come off the sprockets, so nothing to worry about.
The only bearing failure I've had on my Storms was the large crankcase bearing behind the clutch, which got a bit rumbly tn=hen a lot rumbly and when I pulled it all apart had only three balls left in the bearing.....
That one's a split-the-crankcases job, takes more than a weekend's maintenance to fix.
But they rarely give problems.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Removed the headers to remove 13 years of crap, and........ snapped an exhaust stud GAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH feck it. Tried mole grips, reverse thread thingy and gone through two drill bits trying to make a pilot hole for the ez out. Nothing has worked so last shot is to dremel a slot and try to flat blade screwdriver it out. Wish me luck......

Plus if you use a stick welder (Arc welder) the heat will also help, just disconnect the alternator and battery before you start,Watty wrote:Weld a nut on! Another one that didn't use a nut splitter !!
Come on guys there only a few quid of eBay and takes a lot less time than removing 2mm from the block and putting two flats on the stud so you can get a 8mm spanner on it and heating the Ali up so it'll come out !

10 miles only, just got back from skiing so hope to get some miles on it soon. Got some nice Red Levers too, thank you, you know who you are!!!

I'm such a muppet, I've got a bunch of nut splitters in the garage, never thought of using one to get a stud out. Cheers Lloydie

Took its clothes off, ready to fit a new toy once it arrives...
Might whip the wheels off for a good clean, clean the chain and give everything a good once over while I'm in there too. Need something to do while the roads are gritted!

Pulled the callipers off the Custard Crumble, Split them & gave 'em a good scrub, re-fitted & new fluid bled up nice & firm.
Re-fitted the rear wheel with it's new tyre.
Removed the rentac rack fitting mount dobbrie. & re-fitted some well nuts for the rear screws.
Plastic welded a crack on the seat fairing.
Replaced the moody nut & bolt holding the rear light in with a correct fixing & screw...
Ripped the fek out of a pair of trews as I kept catching them on the bar sticking out of the padockstand...

Nut splitter just sheared the bolt in half, ended up with nothing still showing above the head. Filed it down and refitted everything and hope it keeps the headers tight enough to seal. Going to get it to a garage and see what they can do. Snapped. Literally

I know but you can make a groove using the nut splitter then twist the whole thing to undo the bolt. The problem here was the bolt was just too weak to take he indentation
