thanks Mac was thinking of inviting myself to Grainstorm as well but don't know if i can wait that long
i've got the mod bug already aaarrgghhhhh :oops: and only had bike 4 mths :confused

hi popkat sorry but my bike knowledge is minimal how do you determine what weight of spring to get and just to prove my ignorance how do you set preload and what does it do :confused
If your not doing the mod yourself don't worry about the details, it'll involve lots of typing :lol:
Pass on the info to who's doing the work as they will know what it all means. wait til the workshop day it'll be worth it and you'll gain some knowledge about suspension too..

How much do you Weigh ?, I ask because the weight of the best suited spring is determined by your weight. If you give me your weight I can advise which spring.

i'm about 13 1/2 stone jeans and a t shirt a stone heavier with my winter kit on :thumbup:

For your weight 0.85 Springs will be right for road riding and some track work. 0.875 -0.90 may be better for very fast track work and racing, but it's down to personal preference then.

If you get them set up as per my first post in this thread you will be very happy with them :thumbup:

Racetech's suspension bible is well worth getting if you're even half interested in this sort of thing. It's well written, in my opinion, and has great diagrams to help.

I assume that the "weight" of the Spring is its rate. It's rate is an expression of how much force needs to be applied to get it to move a certain distance. For example lb/in or kg/mm or n/mm etc. It's best to think in terms of force as opposed to weight. True, if you were able to sit on the Spring (oo er) and you weigh 80kg, then the force you're applying is 80kg. But fork springs compress under braking (or just riding along) because a force is applied, not, strictly speaking, a weight.

So a coil Spring with a higher rate will need more force to get it to move a certain given distance. Or to look at it another way, a higher rate Spring will move less distance for the same force.

Even if it's not spot on for your weight it'll be light years from standard...
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

happy days then :biggrin and weres the best place to source the steering stem bearings as i might as well jump in neck deep and sort it all out at Grainstorm.i feel the pressure already,some initiation :crazy: :end:

Bear in mind you'll be doing the work yourself, with someone checking up and making sure you don't mess it up...
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
