Torque Wrench Calibration

Post by Mav617 »

Hi,

I haven't used my torque wrench in the past year - do I need to get it recalibrated and if so, anyone know of a firm who can do it by post?
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Was it wound off before it was stored up?

No, left it around 30% from zero.

According to this unless you''re planning on working on helicopters carry on...

Interestingly in the bit ' Should I wind my Torque Wrench Back to Zero?' it says to wind it back to 20% - I've been setting it back to 0%, whoops!

I was always taught to set it back to 0
and I have had a Halfords torque wrench for about 25 years and I have checked it against a new draper one I brought last year and they both clicked off at the same point

At work we calibrate every 6 months and it costs £24 each up to 240lbs /ft £44 after that. Mine 4 have never ever been adjusted and are always in line. They are all Norbar ones. I always wind back to Minimum and turn 1 turn back on. ! They are probably used once a month! at most now. As off the Tools.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

For the amount they go out, they are still better than the 1 click spanner approach.

It's not 20% they're saying you should unwind to, it's the bottom of the scale which is usually 20% of the max rated torque.

The same here.

Although I bought a new Draper torque wrench some months ago for the lower torque values, to my surprise they suggest returning it to the lowest settings after use. That is 10Nm for this wrench,

Chris.

I hardly use mine as I don't find it that easy to read, and it's size makes it unwieldy - thinking of getting one of these to use with my standard Wera ratchet:
