Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
Received the Micron exhausts today and they've been damaged in the post... Think the bracket from the link pipe has gone through the carbon. Any tips on how I can fix this? They are straight through exhausts...
Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
What diameter sleeve is it?
PJ engineering do a range of sleeve diameters.
You should be able to rebuild it, all you need are some decent rivets and a hand riveter gun.
Do both side so that the patterns/weave match.
An no, I don't want to do it; it's a horrible job

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Contact the seller and see if the delivery was insured / get a refund.
Or as Lloydie suggests price up getting them rebuilt.

You could glassfiber the inside ,like a patch if you want to keep costs down .
I'd contact the seller first as its there problem

Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
It's the suppliers responsibility. Not saying it's their fault (although it might be if they weren't packed appropriately) but they should arrange to have it returned and replaced. I would have thought.
Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
I organised the postage, and only got 25 cover. Stupid. They weren't packed very well though, the exhausts were wrapped in a cloth type material, and they were just wrapped with the link pipes in cardboard. I suspect one on the brackets from the link pipes has caused the damage... I only paid 80 for them, so replacing the whole sleeve is not going to be cost effective. I was thinking an epoxy resin, but this isn't flexible. High temp sealant? But not good under pressure. Is there much pressure, as they are straight through?

It's their fault for not packaging properly as far as i can see (there is probably as clause in the small print stating that they won't accept responsibility).I would try for a refund, you got nothing to lose.
SO WHEN DOES THIS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER KICK IN
Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
Wonder if the band clamps would cover it? I'm thinking if you repair it then cover the "scar" with the bands.
Question regarding the pressure is an interesting one. I dunno meself.

Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
If you're considering a patch, then I'd suggest epoxying a section on the inside. The pressure pulses will push it into place rather than trying to blow it off, unlike doors.

Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
I cut a square off a coke can and high temperature siliconed it to the inside and made good the outside. Doesn't look bad at all, I just hope the pressure doesn't breach the sealant. If it does, I'll have a go with epoxy. I'm fitting them on Saturday morning before a ride, so time will tell!

That's not a hole ....... this is a hole
Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
Oh no! Don't think a coke can would hold that!!
Re: Hole in CF exhaust sleeve
It's worked a treat!! Been out all day and doesn't look any different, still a nice seal. Pops on de- acceleration though... Could be a leak somewhere, perhaps between the link pipes or the rubber seals on the exhausts. Further investigation required, however it's not that bad at all. See you tomorrow Tony!!
