Home Brew - Do You?
Home Brew - Do You?
Anyone else here brew their own beer/wine? I was making fruit wines (usually supermarket juice + sugar + yeast) but was only making small batches so figured I might as well do 30 bottles for the same effort as six. When the fermenter turned up I decided to do beer instead - just sampling my second batch (this is a Coopers Mexican Cerveza) and it's very nice (and cheap).Anyone else brew their own? (Not exclusively, I still have to buy in whilst it's brewing!)
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

I have brewed my own lager and ale before.
Ale is a lot easier to maintain than lager.
Very cost effective. 15 quid or so for the guts of 36/37 pints.
Still have the kit in the house and am going to be trying cider in may.
One of the guys in work brews a lot of cider with highish alc. Content and tastes good too.

If you don't try you never know if you can do it.

I had a go when I was about 19 or 20yrs old, which is years ago I used a Boots beer kit. The outcome was okay, but nothing great. I imagine the beer kits have improved since then,

I make my own wine and beer from scratch as well as kits and have had a great deal of success in competitions including quite a few "best in shows".
I run a wine and beer making website,
http://www.winesathome.co.uk/forum
You should find a great deal of information, guidance and tutorials.
I am a member of the National guild of Wine and Beer judges, so if you have any questions I will gladly answer if I can.

Freeze the apples and then thaw and press them, it will give you cleaner juice which will mean better tasting end product.

This Yank does...
I have a nice IPA and a dark Texas ale in the fermentation chamber now.
On tap is an Amber Ale, and in that same Tap fridge is an IPA and Belgian Tripel carbing up....the IPA should be ready on monday, the Belgian just went in the keg last week, so another 3 weeks to go.

don't drink at home, apart from the Grey Goose etc.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
