Front brake lever travel ?

Not the usual question about brakes because im more than happy with the power and feel of them, but what im not keen on is the amount of lever travel i have to use to get it.

Now it could just be me as im used to radial mounted 4 pad per caliper Brembo setup where the lever hardly moves but the Storm lever moves 30 mm before the lever goes solid at standstill.....Good job i've got big hands

The brake calipers have been completely stripped, cleaned and rebuilt to free off the pistons that were slightly sticking.....with all now working as they should. It already has braided hoses fitted and the master cylinder doesn't leak, of course it has new fluid after the strip down and theres no trapped air.....the only thing that i could say is the pads will want changing sooner rather than later....but that shouldn't make any difference surely

So...How much lever travel does your Storm have ??

Was thinking the same this afternoon when out for a blast and i think mine is about the same as yours but i dont have braided hoses yet.

I know you have bleed the system, But try cable tyeing the brake lever to throttle and leaving it over night. It puts the system under pressure and allows any small air bubbles you can't bleed out to rise to the master cylinder.

also the standard mastercylinder..leaves a little to be desired... im getting one from an sp2 fitted to my storm thursday...one finger braking....
unless you just need to adjust the span adjuster?.....

One question should sort this out

Go out for a ride and you pump the lever a couple of times, does it go firm?

If the answer is yes its almost certainly that you've got air in the system somewhere

If not, check the disks for runout (side to side movement as the disk spins)
This will push the pads back into the calipers as it rotates meaning you have to push them back out before you get full braking force
If you don't sort the disks soon the runout will cause the disks to go thin at certain points -this is what people refer to as the disks warping and is felt as a pulsing at the lever

Common problem on the firestorm rebuild the master cyclinder or just get a brembo radial one.

The standard one is crap

Hey guys... I was at a trackday tonight ,testing the bits ive recently had fitted to the storm....SP2 mastercylinder...gixxer 750 calipers...Kevlar clutch kit, with heavier springs...braided clutch cable. 15 tooth front sprocket..
well ... ive already got a 43 toother on the rear and with the 15 front..
1st gear is redundant..2nd -4th are so close they could be one gear..5th and sixth. even got a look in tonight... accellerates like being shot from a cannon.
so big grins there.. ran outta puff about 140mph .. so i think ill put the 16 back on the front....the clutch kit is cool extremely fast takeup .it was a little prone to hoisting the front. when i fluffed shortshifting up the box

but felt like it was getting the powah down .earlier with not a hint of slip...
exiting the corners. the brakes are fkin phenomenal the radial mastercylinder and the gixxer calipers , are a monster combo thank god i had Roger do the forks, i certainly helped my cornering having predictable stoppers. i was pretty hard on them at times. although the suspension still needs tweaking a bit ..so all in all im well impressed with these Upgrades..especially the brakes..the smaller front sproket didnt half throw off my speedo ..out by at least 20mph i reckon....ho hum.....

What you need now is a Sigma mini computer to give you correct mph

Strange, I do remember one person not being able to get anything on the LCD screen, I think he put it up for sale in the end

I run 15/44 and have just put a sigma on it, the sensor is mounted at the fork and the little square magnet is stuck to brake rotor, the gap has to be at most 5mm for it to work properly. the little magnet just misses the fork on mine ( it was touching till it wore a bit off) it seems to work fine at all speeds

I am thinking your braided hoses are a few years old ? Even braided hoses ' give' after a few years allowing the hose to expand when pressurised, thus giving less pressure at the cylinders.

Correct me if i'm wrong guys !!!!

Perhaps all you need is new hoses ?
