Bike lift
Bike lift
Been looking around for a bike lift of some sort. The Abba Superbike stand looks like the fave at the moment.

Paddock stands look a bit too risky as a one person job. Plus the fact that you need two for front or rear lift.
Any one using one of these?
I also did a search of the board and found a few posts from jonacol. Seemed to be selling a similar stand, still around?

DON'T GET THE ABBA STAND
The reason?
Its not coz its not a decent bit of kit, it is. The problem is it lifts the bike on the swingarm pivot
Which means you can't use it to remove the shock, swingarm, linkages etc
You also can't change the chain without cutting it too
JonC is still on the VTR list, although I'm not sure he's still making the stands
I have one and it is a top bit of kit, it lifts on the engine mounting bolt ABOVE the swingarm
If anyone is interested let me know and I'll do photos, drawings and dimensions which will enable you to get one made up for peanuts coz it really is very simple

Pretty much as it looks really
Get a length of box section steel
Cut to length (obviously me getting my butt in gear and giving you dimensions would help here!)
Weld sections together as in the pic
Drill hole in one leg to fit plain metal bar
Drill hole in other leg to fit threaded rod
Weld bolt onto inside of leg to accept threaded rod
Weld support rod onto bottom
Paint using hammerite (or get it anodised if you want to be really flash!!)
Hopefully get pics and dimension sorted tonight

I know what you mean, my wife is in India on work till end of July. How do you think can I afford and get away with buying a bike, getting the forks done and dyno jet and then get a pair of Remus Titanium high levels in the same month. Only happens once in a married man's life. No rush for the measurements, it is more about the trying out the mig welder (fogot about that) that I bought.

Good news, I've located the stand and measured it
I'll do a new pic tomorrow with all the measurements on
In the mean time I can tell you you'll need some 2" square section steel
Cut it into 2 x 720mm lengths and one x 610mm length
You'll get away with buying a single 2m length actually coz IMO the width is a bit excessive
Other requirements
750mm solid steel bar (20mm diameter)
300mm threaded bar (approx 19mm diameter)
Nice fat nut to fit on above (mine is 28mm)
Should be enough for you to be going on with
