At last.. i've joined the cct club:-(

Post by markg »

I hoped it never would happen but it has with no warning at all. Going to work on Monday I throttled off for a roundabout and got the famous cct rattle followed by lots of clunking and only one cylinder firing :(
Had some of the springs supplied by Dave Greenwood which I hadn't fitted yet so I had my fingers crossed that only the cct was knackered...but no I wasn't that lucky. After sorting the timing I fired her up and only had one pot working.
Took the head off and both inlet valves are knacked and the exhaust ones look suspect too, at least the piston is unmarked. Gonna remove the valves tomorrow.
Looks like its gonna cost a bit, 18 quid each for inlet valves, 30 quid each for exhaust valves, 15 quid for a head gasket to start with on top of a cct. Think it might be a good time to change the front cct too.
I'm now officially been put on "suicide watch" from everyone at work too :?

Whilst I had a replacement engine as a result of the CCT problem last year, with new CCTs, I am going to take a trip to Roger in summertime and get some manual ones fitted I think, with some advise as to how to adjust them properly, as I always have this nagging doubt in my mind that they may go again, depsite it being some 37,000 miles until the first time! She has over 40,000 on the clock now.

2 to 3 week wait for cct's at Dave Silvers at the moment. Think I will change the front one as well on mine while its in bits as its supposed to be the dodgy one. Oh well I was meaning to check the valve clearances sometime, maybe now would be a good time.

Has anyone had the rubber bit on the end of the cct plunger split?mine was when I took it out. Luckily it hadn't dropped off into the depths of the engine.

Ok, I'm so paranoid now that I phoned Honda in Edinburgh to replace the CCT on my 16000 miles 98 model. Was asked what part I wanted replaced? I should come in, look at some photos and thye'll order it in for me. Can anyone please tell me hwat the part number is or what I should tell this guy?
Thanks

Would like to, but It's not England this, up here everything is few and far between. I have a good Kawasaki dealer nearby, but would thye do a good job? Anyone else in Scotland had this replaced by a shop and are happy with the job? Or if anyone has done it themselves and would like to show me, will refund your time....and buy the parts myself.

I would be thinking along the same lines as Tony's post :!:

Sorry too hear about your problem's Mark :!:

It sounds like going on what you've said that the metal caps from the original CCT's were not fitted to your exsisting tensioners, because I would have thought it very unlikely for the rubber to split if it was encased in the metal cap as it should have been :!: If that is the case, did the spring break or was it a failure caused by the rubber splitting :?:

No metal cap on mine when I took it out, looking at the tensioner I'd say it was the original one too.In answer to you as well Sirch345, the spring had broken.
Got me wondering about the metal cap now, has anyone else had them missing :?: I've had my storm for over 3 years now 11,000 on the clock then and 29,000 now so it done well.
At the moment tho i'm totally pissed off and seriously thinking of chopping the 'Storm in when its repaired, what to replace it with tho? not much choice when it comes to twins :(
