No metal cap on mine when I took it out, looking at the tensioner I'd say it was the original one too.In answer to you as well Sirch345, the spring had broken.
Got me wondering about the metal cap now, has anyone else had them missing

I've had my storm for over 3 years now 11,000 on the clock then and 29,000 now so it done well.
At the moment tho i'm totally pissed off and seriously thinking of chopping the 'Storm in when its repaired, what to replace it with tho? not much choice when it comes to twins

I wonder if the other tensioner has a metal cap on it

I wouldn't have personally thought they had not been fitted from new, knowing how strict Honda are on quality control (pity they hadn't been so strict on the life of some of the Firestorm CCT's) I would think more than likely they had been renewed before you got it
I think the problem may be with the metal caps not being transferred too the new one's, is when you get the new one's, you think because there's no metal cap on them that they have been upgraded and are now just rubber instead, because looking at the original one's the metal caps look like they are part of the CCT plunger and not meant to come off
If only Honda supplied the new one's with metal caps fitted or at least a note for correct fitments in the sealed bag with the CCT it would have helped
I'm not surprised you're totally pi$$ed off at the minute, I know I would be

IMO Just get your head down and get it sorted as soon as you can, then you will feel heaps better and in a position to either trade her in, or keep her

which ever you decide you've got to repair the Storm first, unless you can afford to loose a lot of money
