I've made a boo-boo

My loveley shiny bike aint loveley and shiny anymore.

I stayed at our caravan @ northumberland 4 a long weekend, ;all yesterday evening and last night it pished down, so I covered the bike with tarpaulin from a gazebo to keep the rain off it.

It was also windy, the tarpaulin must have had fine grit/muck on it and was wind beaten - it has caused flat spots on the nice red shiny finish on the tank, fairings etc

None of it is too bad really but I just want to know how much polishing I can do on the plastics, tank and seat cover.... don't want to go through the paint.

also, while i'm on the subject, there's a sand grain size dink in the finish on the seat cover - right through to the black undercoat - dunno how it happened, I think I may have put my helmet down on it after having it on the ground & perhaps a little stone dinked the finish.

Where can I get the touch up paint from?

And lastly - I need a 'proper' bike cover to keep at the caravan and for touring. any reccomendations?

The only polish i use is Mer in the blue bottles put a few coats on it gleams
i never use anything else.

ps RS Paints in Barnsley Yorkshire may do touch up paint if you give them a ring with colour code of bike i will try and find the number for you and pm you it i think i have it in the garage.

I already have a hoard of meg's stuff... looking for a finish renovator realy.

might try the clay bar that I have and failing that a leccy polisher with some tetrosol T Cut (not the autoglym T cut sh*te)

any tips for a good bike cover?

I bought a cover at the bike show from this lot http://www.bike-covers.com

Thin, light weight material which i thought would melt on the exhaust but it didnt. Kept the bike outside for over a year and it didnt let water in once. Only problem was the dark blue colour faded in the sun.

Recomended.

You can pay silly money for covers, the best one i bought was an oxfor one cost Â£9.99. Light weight water proof and no scratches.

Keep the bike in a bike safe garage now so cover just keeps the dust off.

meguairs polish can't got wrong

the clay bar will only remove bugs and the imperfections that get stuck on the paintwork that the polish doesn't get off.

I tend to use it once every so often to "clean" up the pintwork

but i use meguairs shampoo, dry off, meguairs tech wax, autoglym finish polish (though when this runs out i'll be having the meguairs gold class polish) with autoglym metal polish to detail

takes a little while to do it all, but well worth the effort

aldi bike cover Â£8, top stuff, thick with a soft inner coating!

Red touch up paint or in a spray can, I got some for my bike 1999 model colour code R157 and it's called Italian red from Halfords, I don't know if your colour will be the same as mine as your bike is newer, I had to touch up my seat bodywork, the only thing I didn't do was use a white primer which was used on my bike, if I had it would have been a very good colour match

I tries my tub of gold class paste that I use on my car, slowly but surely its taking out the dull spots...

S100 wax, lots and lots of hard work, but boy what a finish!!!
