I've gotta spitting problem

Post by drapes »

:? My R reg storm, everything standard, will keep spitting 'n' popping back through the carbs/airbox on overun, sometimes cutting out completely! Any ideas for a fix folks?

hi drapes,

had the same problem on mine - it was running fine ( with aftermarket cans etc ) and while riding i thought, 'mmm dosent normally sound like that on overrun...'

turned out to be an airleak on the front carb balancing port / vacuum take off ( beneath the carb ), but could be anything below the carbs ( ie rubber joints between carbs and engine intake, etc ) letting air in.

its happened a few times as i had a poor qaulity pipe perminantly fitted - to make carb balancing easier - and it was repeatedly splitting on the metal connector screwed into the block - the bigger the split the more air getting sucked in on overrun and the more spitting, popping and cut out at idle...

Hi Drapes
 Welcome on Board
Another favorite is the Exhaust gasket on the rear cylinder. It's hidden by the rear swinging arm and the Shocker. Just follow the header pipe out and down and you'll see where I mean.
It could be blowing and need replacing

My bike was doing exactly this (not cutting out) and it was these gaskets, they are like weird silvery wire things. Although i agree with Kaz, i think it sounds rather cool!
