Had a bad night last night

Whilst on the way to Corby on A43 i had the misfortune to witness a accident


2 bikes were following a car along the road with me and another coupleof cars a bit behind them. There's a part that has bollards and towards this the car began to slow down.

Bikes seeing this decided to overtake, at this point the car started to perform a "U" turn which both bikes promptly ploughed into

Now mindfull of the story about removing helmets i pulled up whilst the car drivers phoned the police et al.

I'm sorry to report that both bikers we're killed out right whilst the car driver suffered "shock"


I know its going to be a warm weekend,so please be careful

Sadly this is too common.

I'd never overtake a car that was slowing down - they slow not to let you past, but because they're about to do something stupid.

Treat all other road users as IDIOTS, generally speaking most people in a car are driving with very little awareness of whats happening around them , eg listening to music, checking heater is at right temp, yelling at little joey in the back seat for wacking his sister, the list is endless: their senses are deminished because of the comfort and their perceived safety and so they are not concentrating on what they are doing. Our job is simple, be aware that they dont know anything, and drive/ride defencefully and carefully. This dosent mean to be a wuss and pussy around.As Kitch said if they slow down it means theyre going to do something stupid. I always make certain ive made eye contact , or are sure that they have seen me before i whip past them.

I am sorry to hear of two fellow bikers who wont make it home.


This weekend here in NZ we have our brass monkey rally( #26), I believe the weather is going to be cold but calm, about 2500 bikers will attend, sadly I cant make it this year( wouldve been 10 yr badge) but i hope they will all return safely...

What kind of speeds were involved?

The way its described sounds like it was in a 30 limit, which is kind of scarey, you like to think that if you come off at those kind of speed there is a fair chance you will survive, unless you are very unlucky.

Unless you actually hit something solid generally you can come off at pretty highs speeds and walk way.

Just shows you how vunrable we all are out there.

These kind of stories really make me worder if it worth it.

Well done for posting that info Rincewind It would no doubt have been quite a shock for you too

It's always going to be a sad occasion when someone looses their life (or lives in this case) on the public highway, but it's also good to have a reminder of the dangers that can all too easily happen to any of us on the roads of today

Obviously I'm sorry too hear of the two riders who got killed, RIP.

dunno about speeds, i was a little to far back to see and it was around midnight so dark as well


has kind of got me, especially as i was theone checking for pulses

but i've been out on the bike and i'm determined not to let this affect me

though to be fair i'm a little slower.....

Don't worry bud, it's only normal for something like that to get to you. It's only human. Nothing wrong wi finding yourself riding a bit slower either. Sometimes tragic instances like this just make us realise that nobody's invincible and accidents can happen to any of us.
