Help CCT?

Post by sirch345 »

Hi All,
Can anybody who's experienced CCT failure describe what the noise ( prior to failure) the engine started making, and could you hear it when riding it or only when stationary, any help would be appreciated.
cheers Chris.

Hi Chris,

Not long having experienced the same thing. Mine went at about 80mph while changing down. I heard nothing before it went, no tapping or knocks etc, but when it went it was like as if the valves had all come down and were slapping the top of the piston. I'm guessing the noise was actually the chain whipping around inside because it had no tension.

Not a bad job to do, I was lucky that all that was wrong was the CCT went, and no other damage was done. Check out the messages below regarding the CCT's there are 3 pages about them on the last subject mailing ! Did it myself in about 1 hour. My mate likened it to scrap - heap - challenge ! If you need more details as how to do it, give me a shout back.

Ronan.

Hi Ronan, thanks for the info, looking at earlier thread I see you quoted a price of 72.44 including gaskets, for the pair, was vat and p&p on top ? the reason I ask is I rang Will Lewis at Chiswick today and was quoted a lot higher price, Will is getting back to me tomorrow hopefully with a better price but I doubt it will be that low, cheers Chris.

Chris,

The tensioner itself was 34.61, and the gaskets were 1.61 each. VAT on top, I think he charged me one or two quid for postage, nothing huge. Do you hear tapping, or are you just pre empting a failure !!

Cam chain tensioners VTR

Post by sirch345 »

Hi Ronan, my bike is making a noise which sounds like a patter which you can only hear when changing down using engine for breaking ie when coming up to a junction when you are going fairly slow, when the bike is stationary you can hear a rattle at 2000 to 2500rpm but not everytime, I am going to check it out, thanks once again for your help, Chris.

8O If the CCT does fail, as mine did, the bill for one cylinder is quite a shock! Mine went to Chiwick Honda in London, and was done under warranty. Being sad I got a copy of the bill for my records.....£550.00!!!! Ouch! :!: :!: :!:
Drink to contentment not to capacity. I just haven't figured out which comes first.
