One of those Mornings !!!!!!!!

Post by essexbloke »

Bloody Essex County Council !!!!!!!!!

Minding me own business doing 40mph through the dammed roadworks......on my way to work.......

suddenly gets a dodgy feeling, the bike isnt turning properly......

i look down, lo & behold, the rear tyre is flat.........

so i limp it out of the roadworks, off the A12, (didnt fancy getting squished by a hgv), yup, flat as the preverbial..........

2 hours later, Mr RAC turns up with an elastic band thingy and "emergency" repairs the hole.........

He tells me to go straight to he nearest tyre shop to get it plugged properly. Problem is, Mr "dumb git" Tyre man, refuses to take the wheel off himself.......that's really helpfull i thought.......

Then someone mentions that they dont repair anymore.........

anyone know what the deal is here?????? the tyre has done no more than 2k miles, so plenty of tread life left.........

Ps, if you were one of the 2, yes 2, bikers that stopped to see if i was ok, big thanks.......

if you were one of the other 30+ riders that couldnt be arsed.......

STUFF YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i'll remeber that next time)

Cheers........... :(

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the flat!! Regards is it legal to fix, all I can say is that a mate of mine got a puncture 2 wheeks ago (nail in the front) circa 2000miles, took it to a place in coleshill west midlands who fixed it no probs (pluged and glued from inside). Cost £20, new tyre was £80, mate was chuffed to bits :D
When I asked if it was legal or not he replied yes, he does about 30 a day!!!

ps wasn't like it was a back street affair either, there big and supply wheels and tyres for CCM!!

a few dealers i think are trying to sell new rather than reparing tyres,
more cash for them,
but if the damage is in the middle of the tread it could be repaired with no problems

Not looking good at the mo..just called a loads of tyre people........

apparently because the RAC plugged it, (and they use car plug apparently)
it shags the inside of a bike tyre, meaning they shouldnt/wont replug .....

hence no-one is willing to do it...........

hey, ho, looks like another 130 squid on the bike then !!!!!!!!

(getting silly now, best part of £800 in the last 6 weeks.........)

I have had 3 pluged by the AA and then repaired in Bow. These were only on a CB 500 and 600 Bandit.

But if you look at the bikes we ride (fast) Avon tyres for example say you should NOT repair any bike tyre due to the stresses that are put on a tyre when cornering.

Avon feel this is so important that if you get a puncture within the first 1mm of tread wear they will replace the tyre free of charge.

Shame thier tyres don't get as good a write up as 010s or 012s

I did many laps of the nurburgring on a plugged BT56 before I remembered it had been plugged!! No problems though, even when chasing a Busa down the huge straight (160 indicated....in FIFTH)

:biggrin

Methinks it is more to do with opening themselves up to getting sued, although there is defintely an argument to play it safe and replace the tyre.

VULCANISING

Post by SKID »

Take it from me (I used to work in a tyre shop, mainly on bikes)the only reason they wont vulcanise your tyre is because they cant be arsed to do it.Take it somewhere else mate.

Bad luck mate ,as i understand it the problem only lies with a sidewall puncture. In the forces we can only repair road use wheels if the damage is in the tread(and our lot are shithot on the laws  ).As for danger i had a repair on both tyres on my cbr and had no probs even after 5 track days and by the last one they were well nackered and still performed
noise polution?,you should see my MPG!!!
VTR1000fw,scorpian cans, dynojet and K&N all wrapped up in HRC colours.I need a HRC avatar!.

I tried 8 different companies in the end, (even local), only 1 is willing to even consider a repair, so the wife is dropping the wheel/tyre off to them this morning........

fingers crossed, if not, it's a new tyre (again).....

best price i got for a single tyre was £90.00 from BFM........(delivered)

Bladdy Council............ :(
