can feel my brake hoses straining when I hold them, and pull the brake lever. The brakes also feel more spongey than those on my thunderace or FJR. I'm going to invest in some braided hoses, and replace the fluid, and that should do the trick.
Anyone got any recommendations for hoses? cheap source?
how many, and how long are the hoses I need?
also, the biting point of the clutch is right at the end of the lever travel. I've only got to pull it in a little bit for it to disengage. I also sometimes notice a slight buzzy sort of 'eehhhhh' noise (but not feel) when slipping the clutch (eg pulling away uphill) is this an indication the clutch is on the way out? Is there any adjustment for the position of the biting point at the lever?

Feef are you sure your not just feeling pressure through the hose, the brakes are not the best on the storm are the pads okay?what pads do you use? as for line length and how many get in touch with paddockstand he his doing me some made by Hel stainless fittings plastic coated over the top. They come already made up so no need to worry about line length unless you buy from someone who makes them up there and then.
Go for one line to each caliper instead of the standard setup as for the clutch problem i would take the slave cylinder off and clean behind it as it may be full of crap and change the fluid.
Has the bike been stood for a length of time? if so the plates might be a bit sticky i had this problem when i was building my mates thunderace streetfighter it was stood for ages in my garage but it didnt make any squeeling noises.
I would start with giving everything a good clean and overhaul and see of this works.

probably.. but the FJR and Thunderace both have braided hoses, and the yam brakes tend to be rather good, so perhaps I'm spoilt
> ,the brakes are not the best on the storm
I know.. as I said.. I've been spoilt with my other bikes.
> are the pads okay?what pads do you use?
pads look brand new, although they were on the bike when I got it, so don't know what kind they are. the bike stops well enuogh, the lever just feels a bit spongey compared to what I'm used to.

I've found some HEL ones for £50, so will be fitting them. as well as flushing and replacing the fluid. Might strip and service the calipers while I'm at it.

Giood idea.. it was sat in the guys shop for a while before I got it.. I wonder if a couple of the plates have dried
I'll take it out and have a look. Might just replace the clutch, if lever position and biting point is an indication of wear.

sounds like a plan, and what I'd probably do anyway

Clutch
Is it a graunchy sort of noise accompanied by a bit of a lurch?
Mine was a total bitch for it, meaning the only way I could move off was minimum revs, then nail it once the clutch was out
Solution?
Remove and throw away the stock springs and replace them with some beefier ones (mine cost me £8)
Transformed mine
NB if you're gonna be removing the clutch cover, get yourself a replacement gasket coz if you don't have one, then odds on the old one WILL fall apart

I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

it's a sort of graunchy noise, but a higher pitch than I'd imagine a graunch././Stormin Ben wrote:Clutch

reminds me of the noise made when a light/unladen shaft is rotating in an ovalised bush (if that makes any sense to anyone)
