Starting issue

Post by gabi81 »

Right so matilda wont start...tries to turn over but wont go
Checked all connections and earth points and starter is ok
Had an issue other day when it just cut out but started straight up after
Now it wont go at all....battery been on optimate all time rectifier been changed to finned one ages ago
Could it be the starter? Bearing in mind its turning but only half a turn or is the battery?
I need to get it sorted for wales trip
In case its the battery what should i go for to replace it?

Have you tried boosting the battery to see if it turns over?

Had the same on Custard last year... Came out one morn to go to work, it turned over lazily but wouldnt start...

After metering batt it was showing 12.v +, so stuck it on charge whilst going back in to change & txt work to bail out for the day...

Spent the rest of the morning swapping bits over, Starter motor & starter lead...3x different starter relays...Still no joy...

Batt, a Mottoblat btw, still showing 12.v +...

I changed the battery... It fired up first go...

After checking batt it turns out it had dropped a cell, so despite showing 12.v it dropped under load...

Moral of the story...Batts dont last forever, even expensive ones, the cheap one i replaced it with has been fine...Which reminds me I reallly need to pull Custard out & fire it up for the first time since June 27th...

Really that long since since you were last on the road  How are the wounds healing?
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
