Does your storm use oil?
oil
Sorry Stu to be the bearer of the news but i am just going on what i know and what i use but i am sure others will tell you the same put it back in the can
and take it back tell them you bought by mistake and rang your honda garage to ask what oil to use they told you to use semi and swap it its worth a try.

I wouldn't be to worried yet about using the fully synth oil just yet, I think the newer stuff doesn't have same problems about slipping clutches etc. I am using it in my Kwak 636 and it is fine even though manual recommends semy synth but since I know a guy who work for Castrol I get oil at a good price and the R4 seem to the top notch thing
ok ok I'll do it..........later
hi guys.
I went for a good ride out today, 160miles round lancs and north yorkshire. The bike was great, no clutch slip or anything untoward happening. I read the R4 container and it states engineered for wet clutches. This oil is manufactured for superbikes, so hopefully i wont get grief. Thanks again for the advice. Stu

ok, now i'm worried.
Today i had to put another litre in.
I put a litre in roughly 300 miles ago. 10/40 semi motul.
is it normal for the oil to burn off in such a short distance. I have thrashed the pants out of the bike tho and have rode like a hooligan.
by the way - I could only get fully synth from the shell garage as it was 7pm and i was in the middle of a ride - just thought i'd check the oil when filling up - the false neutral from 1st to second returned - so i think it is true that fully synth causes slip - however, I was dogging the gears at fast pace riding and the changes were very smooth.

When you say you checked the oil at the petrol station in the middle of a ride. are you leaving the bike long enough for the oil to settle properly before checking? other wise you are going to be overfilling and then you will have all sorts of problems. Thats alot of oil otherwise. have you check that the sump plug isnt missing

I am now getting worried about the amount of oil my Storm is using, and it is starting to get worse. 17000 miles on the clock, no white smoke, but it seems that I have to add oil after every run now (more than 200 miles in one go and I have to add oil). How long do you wait before you check the oil after swithing off? Dyno tune at 16000 showed 101,6 bhp with standard cans, so I don't think it is cylinder or valve issues. Trying to see if I can see any leaking.
Strange that :!:anyway it wouldn't be white smoke if it was burning oil, it would be bluemeintjiesj wrote:I am now getting worried about the amount of oil my Storm is using, and it is starting to get worse. 17000 miles on the clock, no white smoke, but it seems that I have to add oil after every run now (more than 200 miles in one go and I have to add oil). i'm at a loss, the oil is definately not leaking externally. just got back from a 30 mile run and the oil is now 1/4 down past the full mark.i
it must be getting past the rings on full song, which to a degree is expected but not a litre every other ride out.

Cubi,
if you have to refill 1lt every 300 miles it means that your VTR is using as much oil as a two stroke engine (2 or 3% of fuel)
Either it's heavily leaking or you should clearly see blue smoke from the exhausts. Did you drive with someone behind you to check that? Or at least tried revving the engine when the bike is on its stand?
Good luck,
