Can anybody definitely absolutely confirm for me that the later F1+ model 19 litre tanks fit straight on to the earlier model FW/FY bikes?
I need a new one, and would rather not slap a 16 litre thimble on if I can at all help it.

Reason I just want an 01 on tank is that mods and non-standard stuff just doesn't work right. It's all the f*cking about that's got me most miffed, so sack it, standard gear that was actually built for the bike. By the time you've got a non-standard tank working and fitted right, it's cost more than the proper one and made me not want to ride the damn thing.
I will put a 16 litre on if I have to, just the 19 would be better. Honda dealers won't tell you if they fit or not (like it matters to them, I'm paying...)
Best I can learn is that they apparently fit, but might have a different fuel tap.
Hence I'm trying to find a definitive answer.

As much as you would prefer the bigger tank, I would have thought a secondhand 16ltr version will be much more easier to source than the 19ltr and probably cheaper, just a thought.

If you don't want to fit a VFR tank on the grounds of too much twatting about then a 19l Storm tank sounds like the same amount of hassle for not much gain
I don't think you're gonna get any more than 10 miles extra from a 19L than a 16L, its technically more capacity but not useable (ie how many litres are left when it runs dry)
My advice would be to get a cheap 16L tank and fit a filter and dynojet kit to get the exdtra mileage
You never know, you might be able to swap your 24L one for someone's 16L with money going your way??

I did swap both tank and filter, and IMHO if you can do both by getting second hand 19 l tank - go for it.
Tank does fit straight on, but following parts are different:
1. Petcock assembly
2. Fuel pipes
3. Vacuum line to petcock needs to be longer.
Rest fits fine.
Original 16 liter fuel level sensor lits up reserve light after 13,8 liter always around 208 km of mixed riding on backroad twisties and hauls on motorway. After that I rode for another 49 km and tank was not empty. Average consumption with new filter 7 liters per 100 km (mixed riding)and so with this tank it should give me at least 60 km after reserve on. So, we talking about 270 km range. I am OK with it if you ask me.
And I think that Ben's comment on filter is very important - no point in changing tank without changing filter.

Well... now I've chilled a little, I phoned the guys a Harris performance.
After a long chat about what to do, I've got a trick little 1-way valve thingy coming (you can see these on Honda race bikes like the RC45 and NC30 up the front of the tank - check out my storm... Harris / HRC parts on!) so am gonna try one of those + the Honda filler cap from xxxrated (cheque's in the post man)
This is my last ditch effort to make it right for a few quid rather than a few hundred.
If this fails, I'm skipping the fooker.
In which case, I'll be fitting a 98 tank (new from Silvers - £280) or a minter 2nd hand one if I get lucky.
I'll let you know how it goes.
