Brake Caliper Upgrade

Your SP2 MC is an option Tony but I'm not struggling with braking at the moment so I think I'll leave this upgrade until next year.

Has anyone tried SV1000 calipers? They look like the same piston diameters as the CBR/SP ones but look like they won't need the grinding to make them fit.

Hi, i have got the oppertunity to buy a complete set of front brakes of a cbr600rr f4i. the MC, calipers and braided lines, i know i have to grind a little bit on the calipers, but my question is, if the brakelines from the cbr will fit my VTR, or if they are to short/long?

They will either be too short, just rightish (a few mm either way ain't goona hurt...) or too long.

Try them to see, is the easy option...

Too short in the bin, justish right fine, too long not really an issue TBH, as long as you use all the brackets for the lines you can just have a loop from the bottom bracket to the calliper...As long as it's not snagging on any thing on lock your good to go IMO. It works for Moto GP Bikes after all...

More complex is yto ask the seller to measure them befor he packs them up. Then while your waiting for them to arrive measure your lines & compare.

Of course if you already have braided lines just use them.

Do these use a shim between the cylinder and the brake pad?

I've got them on the 'storm rear caliper

I can't see them on the Ron Ayers microfiche

If thats the case, no, pads straight in next to pistons

You can get anti squeal compound, don't use grease!

Try taking a blob of copperslip, and hold it over a gas ring, and see if it melts with the heat....
Brakes get very hot, very quick, and you don't want melted grease on your pads.

I've been looking at radial MCs to go with the 600Fi calipers I've got. Doing a bit of research on lever ratios the best on to match the Fi stock setup is a 19mm MC with 18mm to 20mm pivot distances. The 18mm gives slightly more travel but softer feel than the Fi and 20mm slightly less travel and a harder feel.

The pivot distance on the Fi MC is 27mm so the 34.62 (35) hydraulic ratio is the baseline. The 19mm MC would give a hydraulic ratio of 24.16 but the lever ratio is 1.5 times greater than the std one so the net result is a hydralic ratio is 36.23. With a 20mm pivot it's 32.61.

Your maths sound correct to me, the radial master can be smaller as it has much better mechanical leverage ratio.
