Which cans? new to aftermarket bike bitz.

Post by Hanuman »

I'm considering aftermarket cans.

I assume this will affect the insurance?

Is there a particular can which is highly regarded for the storm? mines the pre 01 model if it matters. Also, I expect I will need it dynojetted.

how much do I need to budget for?

I want to continue taking a pillion, so i expect the high cans are not possible.

Lastly, is there anything that can be done to the stock cans - removing baffles or some such thing to make them breath easier and appear louder?

with ART link pipes you can add spacers to the rear footpegs to still allow for the pillion to be carried

though not quite sure if i would want to ride with my knees near my ears :?

always tell the insurer...

your premium shouldnt be affected at all (if it is, take your business elsewhere)

reason to do so is that if you drop it, they won't cover paying out for them if you didn't tell them.

mainly though, they could refuse to pay out at all (leaving you uninsured and totally screwed) as there's usually a clause to say they can screw you if you dont tell them, have an accident and their investigator discovers you haven't told them stuff.

not trying to make you paranoid, just I would tell them anyway.

I would recommend Scorpions. Especially after hearing stories of how bad some after market cans are when coming to fitting them, trying to get them both level with each other is a problem (according to some on here) which I never experienced when fitting my Scorpion's :!:

Chris.

PS. Kitch I'm with you on the insurance issue, I think it always pays to be up front with things like that :!:

My turn, i'd fit Blue Flames, expensive, but sound awsome, and a few folk on here have had some problems and the blue flame after sales sounds great, no complaints so far from me.

keep your eye on ebay, i got high level ones in rainbow colour for half price, £600 new.

Thats what they say, but for my peace of mind I kept on eye on the colour of the spark plugs, but I needn't of worried as they were spot on :!: My Scorpion cans are race cans therefore they don't have any baffles :!:

just spoke to my insurance company, but they need to refer it to the underwriter between 9am-5pm - tho he said if the cans are kite marked then they wont increase the cost of insurance.

does that sound about right? and are the scorpions kite marked?

Yes that does sound right, mine being race cans are not stamped, but I do tell the insurance company as if the worst did happen I don't want to find out then, that I'm not insured.

I think the after market can companies sell mainly only road legal ones now adays, I would have said almost definitely that the Scorpions will have the legal markings, but I'm sure someone who has them can confirm, if not and you do decide to purchase just check before you hand over the hard earned :!:

is it right that if you get caught with race cans that it is now an endorsable offence 3 points on your licence :?: :?:

I have had a few different types of cans on my storms,
Carbon Micron race cans- they were really pretty loud and needed repacked,Art oval twin spout stainless-I didnt like the quality or fit again these were race versions but the bands could be changed to make them look legal I have to saythese were the cheapest to buy,Remus High level titainium- great quality great sound, but couldnt fit panniers and i didnt like the pillion peg mounts as these seemed to stick out to far,(these were the most expensive but top quality) and currently i have low level oval stainless race Quills these are really great nice note decent quality,
but like everything else you pays your money and makes your choice,
