Lower gearing

Post by dookie »

Having recently purchased and fitted some chain and sprockets from freshfunkmeisters race bike that have 2 more teeth on the back and after a couple of weeks testing i would say to anyone thinking of lowering there gearing to go for it.
It feels now how it should of left the factory with 6th gear actualy being of use rather than a pathetic overide.
Anyone use 2 up on back and 1 down on front? interested to hear as i think it may make the bike to snatchy in the lower gears.
Time for a speedohealer :)
There was a time i used to care

hi dookie

i have only went one tooth down on the front and noticed a big diffrence like your self trouble is i think i will run out of chain adjustment soon so thinking of going two up on the back , i recon i am about 10% out on the speedo the speed healer thing looks good but to dear for a tight git like me so i just re-adjust as i go

i think zerozero has done both, 2 up on back 1 down on front but not heard from him on here or elswhere lately 8)

I have tried the following combos (in chronological order): 16/41 (stock), 16/43, 15/41, 15/43 (all on 530 pitch) and am now running 15/42 with a 520 pitch chain and alum. rear sprocket. IMHO anything lower than stock is a bonus but I did find that 15/43 was a bit low for longer rides involving freeway riding. I really like my current set-up and will likely be staying with it from now on. It has lots of snap (the ligther chain helps too) yet is still ok for longer rides. I think that 16/44 may be a nice set-up too but you would need to add a couple of links to the chain.

Hope this helps

Yep, thats what I've got
Really like it, the only time I notice it is on the motorway where its running maybe 1000 revs higher than standard at 95mph
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

That's more like it Marty, glad to see you've not lost your spirit :!: :D
I thought as you've not been on here much recently that you probably wanted to be left alone with a little piece and quiet for the time being, as coming on here just might be rubbing salt into the wounds if you get my meaning :!:
Just because you have been out of sight so to speak doesn't mean you've been forgotten :!:

How are you anyway :?:

I hope you're feeling somewhat better :!:

Stop moaning you miserable old sod nobody's bothered about you,
we're more concerned about the bike and when it will be back on the road.

My firestorm has a sigma speedo on it.... I thought this was strange until i noticed that when the firestorm speedo reads 30mph, the sigma shows around 27mph. The bike seems to wheelie quite easily as well ;)
I'm guessing the previous owner adjusted the gearing - not sure what to, yet - and I'm loving it
