Nitrogen instead of Air

Went down to Micheldever Tyres this morning to get my rear BT014 changed since it was somehwat bald. When the mechanic changed the tyre he asks me if I want to have the tyres filled with nitrogen. I thought that was just for race teams but they now have a machine to do car and bike tyres for £1.70 a tyre. They reckon it will increase tyre life, improve the ride, reduce the need to check tyre pressures and prevent the rims corroding.

Well after nearly 100 miles to scrub the tyre in I can certainly say it improves the ride, here's hoping that the tyre will last longer than the 3,000 miles the last one did :?:

Yep!
It's all true. I've been to the factory in Holland and had a training course on them. The nitrogen will also stop the tyre pressures varying because there is less moisture content in it and also a nitrogen molecule is larger than oxygen so you should have less seapage from the tyre and not need to inflate it so often.
Did they replace the dust caps with green ones to signify it has nitrogen in them instead of air?

They put Red caps on, not Green I'll ask why next time I'm down there as I plan to try the Nitrogen on my car seeing as my Saab eats a set of front tyres every 12,000 miles!

I've put Helium in my tyres.

Really makes the bike FLY :D

as the molecules are bigger does that mean they wont leak through small holes :lol:
