stalling at tickover

Post by biggers »

I own a 2000 VTR Firestorm. I have one annoying problem. Everytime I stop at the lights, and let it sit at idle it continually insists on stalling. It usually starts again at the touch off a button but recently, with the damp weather, has been a tad reluctant. I have only owned the bike for 6 months, so havn't got to grips with its workings yet. HELP !! What could the problem be. Should I be concentrating on electrics or carbs.

Your help will be appreciated.

Regards

Carbs, Carbs, Carbs.

Turn the tickover up to between 1,200 and 1,300 rpm (if it's not already) and get then balance. If there out of balance then when there balanced the tickover with increase as it's done. If it still stalls then get the pilot air screw mixture tested on somebody's dyno and altered to suit. Also it should be slightly rich to avoid these kinds of problems. This is the time of year your notice it, just as the weather starts to cool. I tended to richen mine up gradually this time of year (1/2 to 1 turn out on both pilot air screws) then put them back to normal as spring comes around.
