Lovely job. I still hanker after a triple but I know they can be money pits and the good restored ones are silly money now.

New seals on the PFM calipers and swapped the lever to a folding one on the HEL master cylinder I could resist.

What's the quality and finish like?
I was distinctly unimpressed with their new calipers, the two casting halves didn't match at all well on the set I looked at.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

They match well but are old, 2007 at the earliest from the discs that came with them. They're the ones with the retaining clip on the inside, which changed to outside from 2008. The coating on a couple of the pistons has come off though. I doubt the 4-pot Nissin's they are replacing would have done that.

Somewhat shamefully it's the endurance racer look I'm going for rather than performance and quality. The whole set of discs, two sets of inners and calipers were a steel.

My choke button mount broke where it passes through the frame bracket, so I ordered a new part and installed that last night. Not really too much fun but I got the carbs off, then mounted up and routed the new part without breaking the plastic fittings, and then got it all reinstalled. AND the bike still works afterwards!

I also noticed my front calipers had started more drag than normal (my front wheel is usually very free spinning) so I pushed the pistons out and gave them a clean with brake fluid on an old shoelace, which freed them all up nicely and got the brakes back to their best.

Well I rode the XSR to work in London, and had a couple of moments on the slippery roads - best yet was my Givi Monolock topbox didn't (lock that is) and bounced off the rack going down the slip road to the M23  so down to the next junction I go, turn around, back off the original exit and there it was, in the mud between the slip road the motorway - parked the bike on the chevrons between the slip and carriageway and run like fook to grab it, run back and secure it to the bike properly before I get creamed by oncoming traffic - phew, has made a bit of mess of it but hey, its only a topbox :whatever
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

That sounded rather dodgy Mav, glad you made it okay and the top box was still there,
