Chain lubrication

Post by sirch345 »

I realise writing this I'm leaving myself wide open to all kind of jokes :!: but here goes anyway

What's the general opinion for the best lubrication to use for the final drive chain :?: At the moment I use a chain lube from Silkolene in a spray can which works very well, apart from the amount that flies off it making quite a mess, I was wondering if anyone has used a wax or grease type lubricant with any success :?:

Hi Chris,
I use castrol chain wax, doesn't seem to fling off that much.

I tried the chain wax on my Bandit. I was not impressed the chain seemed very dry and not actually lubricated.
I just "clean" the chain every now and then with wd40 and then use a chain lube from a spray can.

You should oil your change AFTER a ride and then leave it to soak overnight, rather than before a ride. The chain does build up a small amount of heat that helps the oil soak in.

I'm trying some stuff from "Worth"
Its a special dry formula which doesn't fling off. :D
Time will tell if it works or not.

I would'nt use WD40 as it will dry out the o-rings and cause them to crack
better using a mineral oil and or chain wax (as per alans) suggestion

Also remember to oil the inside of the chain not the outside that way the lube spreads through the chain rather than flinging all over the swingarm.
There was a time i used to care
