have you tried bridging the solenoid connectors with an insulated screwdriver ? this will by pass the solenoid, if the motor turns then you have a duff solenoid.
Also if that doesn't work remove the starter motor and bench test it.

You have got the battery connected the correct way around as in RED Positive (+) cable to the Positive (+) battery terminal

That would / should blow the main fuse or you'd get smoke form the wires... don't ask how I know...
