Firestorm cutting out at lights and sounds a little rattley!

Post by stu1981 »

Hi

Ive only had my firestorm a couple of months now and ever since ive had it it has cut out now and again at traffic lights or when i put it into neutral and coast upto the lights  it starts up again no problem.

Sometimes when im sitting there at the lights it goes to cut out and makes a nasty clonk noise but picks up again, the tickover isnt set very low so i have ruled that out (maybe im wrong to do so?). :?:

I did a small service when i first bought the bike, ie change oil and oil filter, but i havent changed the air filters or spark plugs, so this could possibly be the reason for this cutting out problem?

Also now and again, the bike sounds a bit rattly below 3,000 revs, as soon as it goes over 3,000 revs the noise goes, could this be CCT's? or a problem with the carbs? The bike only has just over 8,000 miles on it.

Any help or advice would be great, thanks for your time!

Welcome.

Have a search on here for carb (or is it the fuel tank?) breather hose, needs re-routed to solve the cutting out. 30 second job.

Mine very occasionally does that if I coast to a junction. Set idle to 1200 rpm. Frankly, cheack all the obvious, like new plugs, get the carbs cleaned and balanced, before looking for anything major.

Search and ye shall find

It's something to do with straightening the hose out, it's in here somewhere.

Mine cuts out occasionally as Stratmans does, usually when waiting in traffic in town, just as a hot looking chick is about walk across the road in front of me  It's a strange thing really, sometimes I can go for days and it doesn't happen then all of a sudden it can do it 2 or 3 times in one day :!:

Where's your kill switch mounted?
Miine's on the right bar but if yours is tank-mounted that may be the problem
