Rear suspension - photo's inside: Settings?

Here's a photo I've taken of my rear suspension unit:





Am I right in thinking this is currently set at it's softest setting, and the default should be:

Rear shock
Pre load (spring) position 2 of 7
Rebound 1 turn out (anti clockwise) from full in.

I assume, this adjuster in the photo is the Pre Load...? yes?
So it's currently on setting 1 and should go round a notch (am I right)

Also, where is the rebound setting adjusted?

Correct, thats number 1

If i remember right rebound is on the other side right down at the bottom. Looks like a wee grub screw.

How did you get on Tempest?

I'm looking to firm up the rear of mine a wee bit as the lad that had mine before me was lighter. I'm 15 stone so it tends to "yump" a bit mid corner. Will a click more of pre load sort this?

Can anyone tell me what the PB settings are?

Well, I have not adjusted it yet as I only took that pic a couple of hours ago.

I'm 12 stone, so am gonna just adjust it 1 notch (factory default) and see how it feels, also check the rebound setting.

Out of interest, what's the PB ?

Preload 4th groove from the top, level with the fork leg

Preload groove 2 (track - max)
Rebound 1/4 turn out from full in

Actually I did use the search and found those settings (as I quoted a small part of them in my posting!)

Done the front back to defaults (I did try harder but my teeth were getting jarred out my head on the lumpy roads around here)

The rear shock is more of an issue for 2 reasons.

1: I don't have the tool to turn the cut away ring adjuster at the top.
2: I can't see where the Rebound screw is?

From the right hand side of the bike on your hands and knees
Its very easy to get to and adjust with a flat blade screwdriver

By the look of your original photo that shocks seen some HARD times!!
Have you made sure the linkages are nicely greased?

I must admit I found the front preload a bit hard for normal riding and softened it by a ring and a half!

You should be able to reach it fairly easily with a long screwdriver (as already said) on the righthand side of the bike (rear brake lever side) providing the shock has not been refitted the wrong way around

Once I found the screw, yes, easy to do....
Just did not know where to look

As I said, only now just want to turn the top adjuster 1 notch, but no way I can shift the thing without the special tool.

Perhaps I can make something at work to do the job?

It's got to engage in those castle shaped cutouts... Tricky.

funnily enough I did get a BIG screwdriver and pressed against it hard, but there was not even a glimmer of movement.

Not sure about hitting it with a hammer. Don't want to jarr any joints.

That's the problem with being a toolmaker, I like to do everything correctly, and not wade in with hammers and chisels...
