STANDARD END CANS.......

Post by Buggs »

Hi all.... Probably does not get asked much on hear but how do the standard cans sound on the storm? Have Scorpians on at mo and have to admit they are loud but sound lovely. Have got the standard cans but never had them on the bike.

Problem is i leave for work in the early hours and it always wakes the other half up. (Dont want to upset the boss now) Im sure my neighbours are not to impressed either. I also know kent Police have a real thing for loud cans and after the article in last weeks MCN, i am seriously considering putting the standard cans back on.

Know it will not sound as good but the standard can on my old R1 was not actually all that bad.... Any views ??????

Tell her to wear some ear plugs and tell the neighbours to have a coke and a smile and shut the fxxk up

Seriously though there not that bad you could always drill a few holes round the baffle to make them sound alittle louder if they are too quiet.

I have the standard on the new storm only because I have not had the time to put the arts on. The arts sound soooooo much better.
I live 15 miles from central London and do ride in, around and out of London. What I have noticed is that it's safer with the race cans making a bit more noise with drivers and pedestrians.

Like the sound of ear plugs and cant moan about the neighbours as they have never said a word...

Kent police are the real problem. Dont know if your saw the article but they gave some poor guy a on the spot fine of £168 for having an Akropovic pipe on his Busa. Never heard of on the spot fines apart from a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) which is normally £40 or £60 with points.

Should be interesting though as the guy is taking it to court as the Akro system was the road leagal one. Apparently the copper claimed he put the e-marked stamp on himself....

On the spot fine can only be fixed penalties. If a higher fine was issued it would have had to have been done by a court. Slightly creative journalism I would say!

The police can issue an on the spot fixed penalty, caution you and you will get a summons for court in the post or give you a rectification notice. This means you have to rectify the "fault" (put standard cans back on) get an MOT center to sign the rectification notice, then return to the police station with it. At worse the can impound the vehicle (this is normally) only done on the ground of safety

agreed, my sp60 got me a 3pointer and £45, in fairness it was 92mph on a 70 d/c. very nice man understood the conditions and reccomended take the offer. He said , take it to appeal and you could end up worse off.
so I took the fixed penalty and avoided court.

I have Scorpions with the removable baffles. They don't say "not for road use" on them, although obviously they only are legal with the baffles in.

I've never been pulled with them (never have the baffles in). When I did get stopped on a Daytona the other week and picked up 3 points for 83 in a 60 (real accident blackspot - long clear B road - was doing 135 before I saw him mind) I had a dark visor on and he never mentioned it at all.

This is in Norfolk mind you, where, according to one of our MPs, the population is "inbred", so he might have been a cousion for all I know.

I'm real interested in the Kent police saga about the loud exhaust. Looks like they've not got a case and are just full of hot air. Perhaps if they lose the case this will silence them. :)

On a serious note..... ;)

I do think that bikers get a bit of a rough deal when they have encounters with the rozzers but I think that might be down to the "victim" mentality as in "i'm a biker and thats why you're picking on me"

Just something to bear in mind and soz if it seems that i've gone off on one, but it does make common sense.

Below is an example of the attitude test (which is called Betari's box)

"My attitude affects my behaviour which affects your attitude which affects your behaviour. which effects my attitude..... (repeat ad nauseum)"

Basically it means if you ahve a strop when ur pulled, it comes across in the way you speak to the rozzer which causes him to think that all bikers are nobs and then treats 'em like shite and dishes out the nasty slips which makes you think that all rozzers are nobs....etc etc

I'm sure you have to agree that it's a lot harder to be nasty to someone when they're overwhelmingly nice to you......

back to the subject of exhausts......
Have you noticed when you're riding that everyone going slower than you is an idiot and everyone going faster than you is a maniac?

It would be interesting if the Kent Police do loose, Would he then be able to sue the copper who accused him of stamping the can for libel/slander ??

Does your bike still vibrate Craig ??

hey max

bike is still vibrating - appears to be a definite misfire so i suspect that that might be the cause.

I've spoken to consumer direct who've given me a couple of pointers in trying to solve the problem with the dealer.

re: kent police.... no, the biker won't be able to sue the officer. the officer hasn't gone to MCN and published the story about the biker making up a safety stamp - i suspect that the biker has contacted MCN. you can't very well turn around and sue someone for saying something which you've gone and published yourself :)

furthermore, if people were allowed to sue in instances where offences are not proved in court, every murderer who gets off on a technicality would be able to sue as a court have found him/her not guilty so the police were obviously lying......
