Firestorm longevity?

Post by df_vtr »

What's the longevity of a Firestorm? Anyone running a high miler?

Mine has covered a shade under 23000 miles, needs a new front tyre, a
service and the rear suspension has developed a funny creaking noise
(probably from all the newly attempted wheelieing). In February it's
paid for - I have just £825 to pay on the loan.

I dropped into the dealer I bought it from (it's a '99 model although
registered March 2001 (Y-plate)). They still have two of the '99 year
consignment, a yellow one and a 'blue/turquoise' one. These are now 51-registered but zero miles.

Anyway, without even looking at my bike they've suggested £1600 to
swap.

Does this seem reasonable? Or should I scrap the idea, carry on
racking up the miles on my current bike and enjoy years of trouble-
free low cost motorcycling?

Any thoughts?

Keep the one you have, £1600 will get you alot of mods to your current VTR, ie moriwaki pistons and cams.

I would suggest that you whip off your rear suspension linkages and check your bearings. Mine started doing that but it wasn't till I went to change the shock I found out that most of the bearings were well gone!
