Fresh battery & a splash of Fuel in Nue Red...
Still wont bloody start...Grrrr.
All Vac lines in place & sealed off.
Getting fuel to carbs as did drain screws...
Checked choke is moving ok you can hear it moving both sides...
Gave up before I lost the plot & set fire to it...

Have you got a decent spark Mac? If you have it may be blocked jets.MacV2 wrote:Fresh battery & a splash of Fuel in Nue Red...

Like Duffy I was also thinking about the spark bit, but I couldn't remember if we covered that or not the last time you were trying to fix this issue?

I will check spark on next visit... Doubt its blocked jets as a refreshed set of carbs was put on it last time...
I might pull the petcock off for an inspection just in case but that's a right faff as it's different to the normal 16lrt one...

Hunted around trying to find a electrical issue. Bloody Ducs.
Dead bike this morning so no ride out. The engine warning light was on, oil pressure light and the dash showed 'CAN error'. Apparently that's the CAN line. The battery voltage screen was also showing 'low', which means less than 10V. I charged the battery and it was showing well over 12V on a multimeter, but still nothing. So I swapped it for another battery I know is good. Still nothing.
The only thing I can think of is water in a connector somewhere, or a loose connector, from when I washed it after the last ride. I only used soap and water but I did clean the discs with brake cleaner. That can't have made a difference though, surely.
Does anyone have any bright ideas?

Get a diagnostic readout. As soon as a can line is involved, fault finding is a nightmare without diagnostic tools.freeridenick wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 6:54 pm Hunted around trying to find a electrical issue. Bloody Ducs.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
I bought Macv2's black VTR, he was selling it as a runner but during the sale chat it had just developed a starting fault. So I got a bargain..
Anyway I am hunting around checking spark and fuelling etc. It all seemed fine. Within 10 or so goes on the starter the transfer gear screech started and that was that.
This got me thinking, and I was kind of wondering this after the same failure on my red one. I have a theory that before you get to the screeching stage, where the interference fit has failed completely and it just spins, before that, the gear must still be letting go, but more slowly. So whilst the starter turns, the gear is turning the motor over, but its rotating a bit, too slowly to actually start it. So you could have a bike with nothing wrong with it other than a transfer gear initiating its failure mode, and hence you get starting issues just before full screech mode.
So how to test this theory? Well does my bike start even with a buggered transfer gear?
I tried to bump it, wouldn't work. I am weak.
My neighbour has a race starter for his hill climb car, its two rollers run by a honda engine like a lawn mower engine, a kind of rolling road.
Bike fired up first time. Happy days.
So into the workshop we go. I am half way through, transfer gear changed, starting on replacing the CCTS. More tomorrow.
Its quite corroded and the carbs on the outside look awful, I have a big ultrasonic tank, so I am thinking I might strip clean up and service/rebuild them.
Are the All Balls carb kits any good? Or the wemoto ones?

Firestorm MOT'd for another year...only another 18 years to go before it gets historical status by which time I'll be hysterical
