Exhaust Pipe Rivets

Post by Dandare2 »

Hi,

I need some advice on rivets.

Has anyone ever re-packed and re-riveted a Scorpion stainless steel can before?

Scorpion have been no help, except to say that normal rivets can't be used, as they will burst. They apparently use 'areo-quality' stainless steel rivetts, but don't sell them.

I've got some normal stainless steel rivets, but now am not sure if they will be up to the job.

Has anyone got any ideas???

Thanks,
Dan

I bought some carbon fibre Mig cans that the previous owner had re-riveted with the following -

'Good quality 4mm (5/32") pop rivets, stainless would be nice, but I used
aluminium ones, preferably with a sealed end'

There were fine/still are.

The only advice I can give is that you should use a similar metal in the rivet as in the silencer, This is to prevent / avoid galvanic corrosion. Did they say why they wouldn´t be good enough? Is there any stress or load on them? I dont´t think so, since they only hold the end cover.

There is no stress on them, but if they are not sealed they will blow gas out. Although that would probably give a bit more power

Any ideas where I can get sealed rivets?

Repacking Scorpion cans

Post by sirch345 »

The information I had with my cans (Scorpion) says the material they use for packing is the type that does not need replacing!

Re-did my Carbon migs the other week, made em more noisy that is.
Used standard alloy rivets, made sure they were the closed end type though.
Did the job nicley.
