Air cleaner restrictor ???

Post by robbie.111 »

Hi Guys..

In the process of putting the air cleaner box back on the storm , and I have noticed that theres two tubes come into the air cleaner box,one at the front and one at the rear , I guess from each carb, they look like breathers tubes ...
Well the rear one has a blanking cap over it , where as the front is open !

Is this some kind of restrictor ( mine is an import ) ?

Leave it out , or put in back ? thats the question , by the way the bike wwas running ok before , although never really pushed it hard as I `ve not had it that long ....

Cheers

Rob

You mean you do not have small plastic collector box that those pipes connected to? Or we talking different pipes?

If your Storm coming from Japan there is more restrictions than just electrnics... Few I can remember were: smaller cowl on intake to airbox, some hole missing on carb slides and (unverified) different camshaft profiles. I'd get rid of all of them at once - Jap Storm feels really weak comparing to unrestricted....

Hi ...
Yeah , they come into the air cleaner box from underneath one either end , but the one coming from the rear carb is the one with a rubber (black) blanking cover over , that would restrict the airflow going to ,or coming from the the rear carb .......

It would seem that the hose in question is an AIR HOSE , but like I said it was blanked off, only the rear one , the front has no blanking plate on it !

Does this make it any clearer ?

Robbie,
I think they are actually the crankcase breathers

I wouldn't worry too much coz if you fit a K&N filter it blanks those out anyway

If it aint broke . . .
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

Hello mate ...

The tubes come from the carbs , not the crankcases ...

hi there,

if it helps - mine has a k+n air filter and both these pipes are blanked off by covers ( as commented in earlier post ). The normal honda filter dosent blank them off - it could be that some one forgot to put one on during last service, etc - its unusual to have one open and one closed like that. IF it where me :D i'd just blank them both off.....

cheers
