Hi everyone!
I am looking at purchasing a 2000 VTR 1000 Superhawk with only 1200 miles on it tomorrow. Everything sounds great with the exception of the range.
I have read several articles and some say the bikes has only a 100 - to 150 mile range. I was just wondering how you guys work around this.

Personally I just stop every 100-150 miles
And back into sensible mode
Fitting a decent filter (K&N or Pipercross) and getting it jetted to suit will increase range by about 25%
I usually get 120 miles to red light out of my 16L tank with another 25 miles on reserve
If this isn't enough you can either fit a later model tank (19L) or modify a VFR800 tank to fit (24L)
Failing that, buy a thundercat, a VFR or a BMW

Couple of comments feedbackif you don't mind
1. I really like the black lower to the tank. It fits in nicely with the black seat and engine, ties in with the line of the fairing and stops your eye being drawn to the gap, the lip on the tank and the strange shape of the underside of the rear of the tank
2. I'm in the process of doing the same mod myself (in between fixing this damn water leak and painting the entire house, re-fitting the bathroom and sorting out the garage!!)
I did a couple of things differently in the actual mounting position of the tank
i) bent the lip at the back so it points downwards
ii) sat the tank slightly higher at the front & lower at the back. This way the seat presses up to the tank, rather than fitting under it. Looks a lot neater and reduces the risk of circumcising yourself under hard braking

In fact I have returned to the standard tank and sold the converted one to Skatrekker as I found it too high and far back for my 5'8" frame! Plus, now I have the TDM as a second bike I use that for longer distance stuff and keep the Storm for Sunday and evening blasts more locally.

I've got the old model tank (16L) & the fuel light normally comes on between about 200 & 210 KMS (note, not miles). I use a racing fuel additive & specialist racing oil & reckon this helps a tonne.
BUT... a 2000 model with only 1200 miles on it??? What the heck has it been doing? I only got mine about 3 years ago (with 12,000 on the clock) & it's about to tick over 100,000! I'd be looking into why the mileage is so low.
