Having probs finding some torque settings for side stand.

Post by Tempest »

Been huntint thru my .pdf manual, but can't find any torque setting for the side stand bolts.

There are 4 bolts.

The plate that the side stand is mounted to had 2 bolts in it.
the front one is a l-o-n-g bolt that goes right thru the engine.

The same plate, but the back bolt is just a short bolt into the engine.

then you have the bolt on the front of the side stand (which has a threaded centre hole to take the switch) and then this bolt, also has a secondary nut of the back.

I can't find the torqe settings for any of these :(

As with any torque settings provided always use common sense in what's been stated, as it appears in that link and in the Haynes workshop manual that the rear sprocket nuts torque figure IMO seems to be wrong :!: :!: :!:

You mean "Final Drive Sprocket Nut" 108Nm ?

That's right isn't it?
those nuts are one of the tightest things on the bike I believe.
Only 2 others tighter.

NO the rear sprocket nuts :!: :!: :!: I've just doubled checked the torque value in the Haynes W/Shop manual and it states Rear sprocket nuts 108Nm which in my opinion can not be right :!: :!: :!:
The front sprocket bolt in the Haynes manual is stated to be 54Nm :!:

Yeah, the 5 nute that hold the rear sprocket onto it's mounting plate (which engages with the cush rubbers)

Yes, those 5 nuts are supposed to be 108Nm (according to the Honda Manual) and on the USA superhawk forums it was mentioned that these 5 nuts are about the 3'd most tightest nuts/bolts on the entire bike.

I've no idea why 5 nuts have to be THAT tight.

Yes, tight of course, but 108Nm is a hell of a lot.

But that's what the manuals say.. so.....................

It does appear then that the 108Nm could be correct :!:

All I'm going to say is I'll not be tightening my rear sprocket nuts up that tight to find out when I need to change it, not until someone can confirm at least that they have done so without dire consequences
ANY BODY HERE WHO CAN CONFIRM FROM EXPERIENCE THAT 108Nm IS CORRECT :!: :!: :!:
