Cam Chain Tensioner

Post by jpickup »

Mine's just gone and the bike is at the dealer being examined. Don't know what the cost will be yet.

Bike is a V-reg with only 8000 miles, had it since new. Serviced at dealer more frequently than required by schedule.

What is the best approach for getting Honda to cover some of the costs? From other postings here it seems that this is possible. I'd welcome advice from those of you who were successful.

Thanks,
John.

I don't know about getting Honda to pick up any of the costs, but you can fix it yourself for $100 and about an hour of your time. I would suggest this if the dealer comes back with some ridiculous price. The repair is pretty simple.

:( If it's out of warranty I wouldn't hold your breath, and expect a bill of around £5-600 8O . Mine went at about 9k, but was under an extended warranty. Honda are well aware there is a problem looking at previous threads, so you could try leaning on them to pay some of the costs if not all of them. Sorry to hear about your bike, and hope you get it back soon.
Drink to contentment not to capacity. I just haven't figured out which comes first.

The dealer has the engine in bits at the moment. All valves are still OK so just tensioners need replacing. They've sent off a request to Honda for parts under waranty so we'll see what happens...

Thanks for the responses.

Just got a call from the dealer. Honda have paid for the new tensioners leaving me with the labour bill.

Fortunately there was no engine damage.

Haven't got a breakdown yet but total cost including an 8000mile service is just under £300.

Seems reasonable.
