I read this a while back.

It sounds the same sort of theory that Crescent Suzuki use on their GXSR1000 race bikes (Rizla).

Basically Crescent do about 8 laps on track. Change the oil then race. They reckon it has no effect on engine life and the bike will make more power!

I think half the problem with lets say people 35 plus is that when we were younger and got our first bikes and cars the quality of engines was absolute shite compared to today.
They needed a 1000 miles to run in because they were poorly cast and made to very poor tolerences , and if you remember most engines were lucky to see 100000 miles before they went bang , i lost count of the old minis and crappy motors i blew up in the eighties were as nowdays 3-500000 is no problem.
Tolerences and oil quality are now almost so good that engine internals bairly touch even when new so anything i run in these days i just let it do what it wants , you can feel how fast the engine wants to go so just let it go :D :D
There was a time i used to care

 yes dookie i am of that age and had to run in my first new bike and i agree with you and sirch it makes sense. New cars dont get run in now they dont get first service and oil dropped till 10,000 or more.
So i will do a hard run in drop oil new filter after first run and then take it steady and build up the revs with the miles then put some good oil in and see how she is

personaly the only engine i would "run in" is a twostroke fourstrokes dont need to be run in as such just increase revs over 100 miles change oil and off you go...... to prove this point with this example:many dealers where telling peps who bought r1's to run them in over 600 miles but all this did was glaze the barrels up and shag the engine
