Hi Chaps

The engine rev's faster, so the bike accelerates harder. The intake noise is incredible, so that also adds to the fun and keeps me pinning the throttle. I'm loving every minute on this bike.

Next plan is to have Bob Farnham gas flow the head, skim the head to increase the compression ratio, and modify the valve seating. This work should increase the rear wheel power to about 75BHP with torque gaines everwhere. That's getting on for 90 BHP at the crank. That's only 15 shy of the 105 BHP claimed by Honda for my Storm!!!

That is quite amazing Rob :!: there seems to be no stopping you :!: I hope the bottom end is going to take all this extra power OK :!:

I think to be honest you're missing the BHP of the Storm going by your last sentence :!:

You enjoy it mate :!:

Hi Chris

The Thruxton is going back to the tuners tomorrow to have the cylinder head gas flowed and skimmed. Then I'm off to Brands Hatch, just up the road, to watch tomorrows British Superbikes qualifying. I'll be riding pillion back home on my mates Speed Triple 8O 8O 8O 8O

I'll post the dyno results when I get the bike back in about a week's time.

More quality time now on the Firestorm, which sailed throught its MOT yesterday.

Hi Rob,
So it's definitely all systems go with the Thruxton's gas flowing and skimming :!: 8)
I'll be interested to see the dyno results :!:

Those Speed Triples are supposed to be quite quick

Good news about the MOT for the Firestorm, it's always a satisfying feeling when any vehicle has a new MOT imo :!:

MODIFIED CYLINDER HEAD RESULTS

Post by robnobrakes »

Its now back after the cylinder head work.

Rear Wheel BHP now 70.6
Image

Torque now 61.3 ft/Lbs
Image

The final BHP figure gives a 32% improvement over a stock bike which makes about 53 rear wheel BHP.

The final torque figure gives a 27% improvement over my bike fitted with race cans.

These improvements are very impressive IMO. The bike is so much quicker everywhere. My chum on his 955i Speed Triple said he had to use all his revs to get past me on the way back from the tuners today, and that was at over 90mph before he managed it!!

Cheers for posting that Rob :!:

That is quite an amazing increase in BHP and torque from the standard engine :!: very impressive indeed :!:

How do you find the engine vibration wise now the compression has been increased :?:

Hi Chris

The first things I noticed were:-

(1) Less vibration at all revs (and there wasn't much before)

(2) 10% stronger clutch springs were also fitted to prevent possible clutch slip in 4th gear. The gearchange is smoother, and the lever snicks into 1st at standstill with no clonking (which I had before, a bit like the Firestorm). Clutchless gearchanges up AND down the gearbox are a piece of cake (I don't try this between 1st & 2nd though).

This bike is getting better and better the more I ride it. I've just clicked over 1000 miles today, so the motor will loosen up a bit more I think.
