Storm for a service

Post by craigybaby »

What oil is every one using at the moment?

My storm is due for a 12k service imminently.

What sort of things will they be doing on that service and how much is it likely to cost at a dealer?

Also, how much would I be looking at for:

* CCT's to be changed

Lastly, im not sure if my clutch is shagged. The bite point seems to be in the last few mm's of lever - right at the end. Does it need adjusting or is it self adjusting or ???

How much is new clutch and fitting gonna be?

Just did a service of mine for my trip over to Europe next week.
Good SemiSynthetic oil - not Full Synthetic
I think the valvesare checked at 16000 so it is probably a minor service - could be wrong check the manual. Minor service are normally between £100 - £150.

I don't think your clutch is shagged at 12000, just need a good bleed. You'll notice the fluid will be black instead of the normal brakefluid colour.

I've done mine about 3000 miles ago at 15000 and it has already started going again. Town riding and trackdays do that to a clutch.

Most of these things you can do yourself for a lot less than a dealer.

By the way...

Self maintenance is a bit of a no no for me......

I can lube the chain, check tyres and stuff

Taking bits off is a no no.

hi,

i would just drop the oil and filter ( diy job ) as the next big service is 16k and that will have the airfilter out etc as the valves are checked.

the clutch - mine also bites at the edge of the lever travel, being hydrualic ( never could spell that ! ) its not as adjustable for 'feel' as a cable clutch - if your clutch is worn pull away in 1st gear quickish :D slipping the clutch a bit. and see if it 'hums' excessively, ie the clutch plates are slipping instead of bitting.
