Mixing Tyres

Post by yellowtrev »

Hi,

What do people think of mixing tyre brands?

I have just bought a Firestorm and on the back is a nearly brand new Macadam 90x and on the front is a soon to be replaced Bridgestone B020.

Just wondering what to replace the front one with?

Thanks in advance,

Trev.

BT014 or BT020 (if you want hard wearing)

Both are amazing tyres and fit the storm really well!

Personally i dont match tyres, some people do with no problems. Depends how hard your going to push your bike i think!

Personally I have done it in the past with no problems. You have to take into account construction and profile but so long as you fit a pair of the same type (eg radial with radial, cross-ply with cross-ply) its not actually illegal

However, the last time I mentioned it on here I got flamed!! :?

If the rear has plenty of life left in it you're gonna get 4-5000 miles out of it
You could fit a stickier michelin on the front which should wear out at the same time so you can then replace them as a pair.
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

dont mix brands, friend of mine done it on a Gixer and spent 6 months buying new tyres to get them to work as a pair.

I use a BT010 on the front and a 020 on the rear, the 010 is a little softer so warms up better for front grip and the rear is sticky enough but lasts well.

Alot is down to personal choice i think, but i find the above works well and have been using the same combo for a few years now.

I don't see anything wrong with that combination and from experience I know it works :!:

Personally I wouldn't mix tyres from different manufactures :!:
